19th Aug

Today we are celebrating American Aviation day.

A perfect time to look back on development in aviation as well the fashion that supported these aircraft's.

Some little facts so we are up to date with what Aviation day is all about, It was established by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt to honour the advancement of American aviation. The date was chosen from the Birthday day of one of the Wright brothers Orville Wright, who built and flew the first successful airplane in America.

With this, things took off…literally. Countless future engineers, inventors, pilots and even astronauts could use this platform.

As well as checking out the history of today we can’t forget about the flight jacket. Not only a statement piece for our style icons but a piece that was key from the beginning for pilots who needed these jackets before cockpits were completely enclosed or heated…. The right outwear was extremely important.

The U.S. Army established the Aviation Clothing Board in September 1917 and soon began distributing heavy-duty leather flight jackets. Around the same time the U.S. Navy had its own series of leather flying jackets that were issued to the Navy and Marine Corps.

Luckily for us our planes are now both fully enclosed and heated! So, we get to style up these jackets to keep the history strong and our looks even stronger.

And to top off this fly through history we will finish off with how we style our flight jacket and the best ways to rock these historical and rather fine-looking jackets…

Going for a classic look keeping the colours light with The Coach TT in Dark Green with the RBF T in White finished off with the Luke FreddyfitUk in Selvages gives a crisp fashionable feel to the old school style.

Wanting something a bit warmer and darker? No problem why not go for the CWU 45 in Rep Blue, this is a more padded jacket for the cooler night, worn with our Cool Cat T in Grey/Black and keeping the look up to date with some Luke Vacuum slim fit jeans in Summer nights.

And last but not least let’s take it to a more street style look. Go for our MA1 DTEC in Rep Grey, matched up with our Classic Logo T and don’t forget to finish the look off with our X-Fit Cap in Black. This is a more relaxed style but still fresh and fashionable.
